Armenian opposition announces “large-scale actions of disobedience” from May 2

The opposition of Armenia will start “large-scale actions of civil disobedience” from May 2, said the vice speaker of parliament, deputy of the “Armenia” faction, leader of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation “Dashnaktsutyun” (ARFD) Ishkhan Saghatelyan, quoted by the Aysor portal.

He called on citizens to go on strike and block roads.

On May 1, a rally was held in Yerevan on France Square demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister country of Nikol Pashinyan. According to Saghatelyan, May 1 was “a historic day, the day of the beginning of the awakening of the Armenian people, unity, consolidation, straightening their backs and achieving victory.”


On the square, the protesters set up tents and built barricades from garbage cans, the police tried to stop them.

Protest rallies against Pashinyan have been held in the country since mid-April. The reason for them was the prime minister's words about the need to “lower the bar of expectations”; on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, which the opposition regarded as the readiness of the authorities to recognize the region as part of Azerbaijan. Pashinyan denied accusations of intending to “surrender” Karabakh.
