The Public Council of the Kherson region suggested that the head of the military-civilian administration (CAA) of the region, Vladimir Saldo, immediately hold a referendum on joining Russia, the RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
The Public Council expressed confidence that the inhabitants of the Kherson region are completely support the initiative.
The administration of the Kherson region has published the text of the appeal of the public council, which says that the organization has studied the received appeals and wishes and came to the conclusion about the “urgent need for an immediate referendum”.
“We consider it more timely than ever to make a strong-willed decision to immediately hold a referendum on the entry of the Kherson region into the Russian Federation. We are sure that the initiative will be fully supported by the residents of the Kherson region, and joining Russia will not only become a triumph of historical justice, but will also secure the territory of the region, open up new opportunities on the way to the revival and restoration of the power of our land,— noted in the application.
Earlier Tuesday, Saldo's deputy Kirill Stremousov announced an “immediate statement” on the issue of a referendum, “which is actually what everyone is waiting for.” In his telegram channel, he wrote: “We are going to Russia and there is no reason not to understand this.”
The day before, the public chambers of the DPR and LPR came up with the same initiative. The head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, then invited his colleague from the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, to join efforts in preparing for the vote.

Kherson region since mid-March, it has been controlled by Russian forces, its authorities have repeatedly declared their desire to become part of Russia. Stremousov said in early September that the Kherson region was ready for a referendum, but a pause was taken due to the security situation. Before and after that, local authorities repeatedly reported explosions and attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On September 1, RBC reported, citing sources, that the Kremlin expected to hold referendums in the LPR, DPR, Kherson region, as well as Zaporozhye and Kharkiv areas until the end of autumn. One of the interlocutors named November 4-7 as a possible time interval. Secretary of the General Council of “United Russia” Andrei Turchak said that it would be symbolic to hold a vote on November 4 & mdash; on National Unity Day.
