The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, recorded an appeal to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) after it accused him of war crimes.

“Gentlemen of the security forces, determine the place where we should appear. We will be happy to come and figure out who is a criminal, who is a murderer, who is a terrorist,— says Kadyrov in a voice message posted on his Telegram channel. He emphasized that “participated, is participating and will participate”; in a Russian special operation in Ukraine. According to the head of the republic, if it were his will, he had long ago “taken Kyiv”, and “Zelensky and the like would have been in the basement already for interrogations.”

The SBU previously stated that in February & March 2022, Kadyrov “personally supervised the development and planning of individual military operations, <…> gave orders, heard reports and reports from their leaders. Daniil Martynov (deputy head of the Rosgvardia department for Chechnya) and Khusein Mezhidov (commander of the Yug battalion) were also accused of committing war crimes.

They, according to Kadyrov, ” on the contrary, they protected the elderly and women. The head of Chechnya noted that Martynov now “works in the Ministry of Emergency Situations”; (In June, RBC sources reported that his candidacy was being considered for the post of Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, and in one of the August messages on the website of the ministry, Daniil Martynov was mentioned as an adviser to the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations).

Kadyrov once again asked President Vladimir Putin to give the Chechens the opportunity to “finish the special operation.” He thanked the president for giving “more than 5,000 additional fighters, fully equipped with all special weapons”, and advised “to wait for surprises”.

Russia has been conducting a special operation in Ukraine since February 24. It is attended by Chechen military personnel, in particular, soldiers of the Akhmat special forces unit, who, after taking control of the LPR, returned home and were presented for awards. Volunteers from Chechnya are also participating in the special operation. Kadyrov himself visited the war zone in March.
