Singer Alla Pugacheva and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev arrived at the farewell ceremony for the only president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev in the Hall of Columns.
The day before the ceremony, Russian President Vladimir Putin also said goodbye to Gorbachev. He missed the official farewell due to work schedule.
Mikhail Gorbachev died on the evening of August 30 at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow after a severe and prolonged illness. He was 91 years old and had recently suffered from kidney disease and was undergoing hemodialysis.
According to the Gorbachev Foundation, the funeral will take place at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow. The politician will be buried next to his wife Raisa, who died in September 1999, they have been married since 1953.
The Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov said that the state would help the family organize the funeral, they would be attended by an honor guard.< p>
On August 31, Medvedev sent a telegram of condolences to colleagues, relatives and friends of Gorbachev. The deputy chairman of the Security Council noted that the first and only president made difficult decisions in the dramatic periods of Russian history and laid the foundation for global changes in the world. He pointed out that the politician had a serious impact on the course of human history.

During his presidential term in 2011, Medvedev awarded Gorbachev Russia's highest award— Order of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
