The 2021 BeachLife Festival takes place today through Sunday and South Bay music lovers are in for a special time.
This year’s BeachLife Festival lineup may not feature the ultimate “Rock-Meets-Beach” musician — Brian Wilson — who headlined one night of the 2019 inaugural offering, but the event’s post-pandemic return nevertheless includes many noteworthy musicians.
Scenically situated in the quiet beach community of Redondo Beach, and slated to run from today through Sunday, this 3-day bill is mighty strong on eclectic Rock ‘N’ Roll.
Day 1 will be headlined by Jane’s Addiction, whose lead singer Perry Farrell knows a thing or two about rock festivals. He created a little thing called Lollapalooza in 1991. Ironically, that festival was intended as a Jane’s Addiction farewell tour. (Okay, maybe it was just too hard for that iconic SoCal band to say goodbye).
Cage The Elephant is the co-headliner, with The Revivalists and Silversun Pickups also set to perform. Friday’s wildcard artist is Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson’s daughter. Maybe we’ll determine if she’s a “thriller” or just “bad.”
Saturday’s lineup is even stronger, with Counting Crows at the top of the bill. Speaking of famous offspring, Jacob Dylan’s The Wallflowers are also scheduled to perform, as well as the wonderful country singer, Cam. Sugar Ray and English Beat will bring much nostalgic fun, as well. Saturday also has a wildcard, or sorts, Men at Work. Yes, it will only feature Colin Hay, the one remaining original member. Still, he’s all the way from the land down under, mate.
The festival closes with Ziggy and Stephen Marley performing songs of their father, Bob Marley. If you’ve ever seen Ziggy Marley perform, you already know how much he is a doppelganger for his father — both in looks and voice. Also, don’t miss the serious blues of Gary Clark Jr. and Ben Harper, as well as G. Love & Special Sauce’s soulful vibes. This day’s lineup is all top tier, no wildcards.
All would agree we’re tired of being cooped up in the house. So, let’s get out to the beach and soak up some sun and wonderful musical vibes.
