Is Alkaline as big as Popcaan on the international scene? Dancehall producer Lee Milla thinks so.
Since breaking onto the scene, Alkaline has had a big rivalry with former Gaza prefect Popcaan, and this year that beef reached an all-time high with diss tracks coming from both sides. Both artists are arguably among the top five deejays in dancehall currently, so the argument is who is bigger internationally. This debate is going on right now and while fans of both sides think that their artist has the edges.
Lee Milla, who has produced songs for Vybz Kartel, is now producing songs for Alkaline, Mavado and Jahmiel. The beat maker thinks that the Vendetta boss is definitely as big as Popcaan globally. Speaking with Anthony Miller on ER last week, Milla was asked what direction is the artist currently taking his career. “As you can see from the year start he has been doing a lot of international collabs so obviously a international him thing deh,” Lee Milla said.
Anthony Miller then suggested that Alkaline is not doing it internationally on the same level as Popcaan while saying that Popcaan has the edge. “I wouldn’t say that,” Lee Milla responded. Poppy has been linked with Drake and has collaborated with international acts like Young Thug and UK rapper Giggs. Alkaline recently collaborated with French Montana on his new album “Jungle Rules.”
The pair teamed up for the collaborative single last month and now we have a video to label that track with. The Moroccan-born rapper released his new album Jungle Rules last month and currently has the number three song in the country “Unforgettable” which is also features on the album. The Luke Biggins and Stefflon Don-directed video saw the UK based singer showing off her banging body.
“What you know about goin’ out, big jet, big check / Don’t care, die for my respect / Life, we gon’ live it up / Neck, we don’t give it up / Dice, get, get ’em, girl, gon’ bet it up / Grind and invest it / Invest like the main role not the ex sh*t,” Montana raps. Stefflon Don has a distinctive singing voice and flow and on this track she showcased her versatility.
“Hurtin’ Me” is Stefflon Don’s first single and music video since signing to Quality Control Music, the same label that Lil Yachty and Migos calls home.
French Montana honors honors his late comrade Chinx in a major way by including him on his new album Jungle Rules.
After dropping the album last week, the Bad Boy rapper serves up the video for his The Weeknd-assisted single “A Lie.” Now we have the video for the single “Whisky eyes” featuring Chinx. The cut saw Drake and Chinx son making a cameo. “My ni**a Chinx son became my own son… / The block where I’m from, you need your own gun,” Montana raps.
The video, which was shot in New York, saw a painter doing a black-and-white portrait of Chinx. Towards the end of the music, French Montana and Chinx son sits next to the painting while reflecting on his memories. This will be a sad video for all those Coke Boys fans. An interesting side note, the video was shot on Chinx’s son birthday and Drake came through with lots of gifts and stacks of cash.
French Montana new album Jungle Rules is here and you can now stream and download it on iTunes/Apple Music.
The 18-track project is the follow-up to the Bad Boy rapper’s 2016 album MC4. This new project is much more robust with guest features from Chinx, The Weeknd, Max B, Pharrell, Marc E. Bassy, Young Thug, T.I., Future, Swae Lee, and dancehall star Alkaline. Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee is featured on the mega hit single “Unforgettable” which has since been certified platinum by the RIAA.
There were some rumors that the album was leaked online ahead of it’s July 14th release date, but so far any leakage seems to be contained early. Speaking with Billboard, French Montana spoke about the comparison of this new album with his previous body of work MC4. “I mean, had I still dropped MC4, the whole thing would have been dope,” Montana said. “It wasn’t even about sales. It wasn’t about nothing. By the way, both singles [“No Shopping” and “Lockjaw”] went platinum. I’m sure the album would have been platinum, but this album [Jungle Rules] is gonna show you a better way.”
On the album Jungle Rules, The Weeknd and Max B are featured on the fourth single called “A Lie.” Alkaline is featured on a single titled “Formula.” Stream and download French Montana new album Jungle Rules on iTunes/Apple Music below.
Alkaline is the only dancehall artist to get a feature on French Montana‘s new album “Jungle Rules” due on July 4th.
French Montana revealed the tracklist for his new album “Jungle Rules” on Thursday and among the star-studded guest list includes dancehall’s man of the moment Alkaline. The guest list for the 18-track project includes Swae Lee, Alkaline, Quavo, T.I., Young Thug, Pharrell, Travis Scott, and the late Chinx, who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting back in 2015. Chinx was a close friend of French Montana.
Alkaline is featured on a track called “Formula” and interestingly the Vendetta deejay already have a track with that title. A rep for the “Nice & Easy” deejay told Dancehall HipHop that French Montana reached out to him personally for the feature a few weeks ago. “French Montana called Alkaline personally and requested the feature, he said that he is a big fan of Alka music and want to get him on his album,” the deejay’s rep exclusively told us over the weekend.
Sources also told us that this is just a tip of the iceberg of whats to come for Alkaline this year. “This is only the beginning, just look out for some big moves coming very soon,” we’re told.
