Britain will strengthen cooperation with the US and EU to coordinate military support to Ukraine, and will also “remain the leader among G7 members” in imposing sanctions against Russia, said Penny Mordaunt
UK Undersecretary for Trade Relations, Prime Minister candidate Penny Mordaunt told The Telegraph that if appointed as head of the UK government, she would lead Western efforts against “violent aggression” Russia, which launched a military operation in Ukraine.
Mordaunt noted that Britain does not seek confrontation with Russia, but because of Moscow's actions, London “cannot pass by and do nothing.” Fighting on Ukrainian territory— it is part of a wider “clash of values and ideals,” she wrote, vowing to continue the outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson's policy of supporting Kyiv.
The politician said that if she is appointed, Britain will increase cooperation with the US, the EU and other key partners to coordinate military support for Ukraine, “while encouraging our European allies to do more.” London 'remains a leader among G7 members' on the imposition of sanctions against Russia and will monitor their compliance, added Mordont.
The candidate for prime minister also promised to explore the possibility of expanding the training program for the Ukrainian military. London will establish a task force led by the Royal Navy “to manage communications and mine clearance in the vital strategic waters of the Black Sea,” she wrote.
Johnson announced his resignation on July 7, this was preceded by a series of scandals around the figure of the prime minister. The last one is related to Chris Pincher— a member of the Johnson government who was accused of sexually harassing men.
