Popcaan, Beenie Man, Lil Ike Supports Raheem Sterling At 1962 Clothing Brand Launch

Raheem Sterling drew out some top dancehall stars for the launch of his 1962 clothing brand.

The English footballer launched his clothing line 1692 last week Wednesday night at the London Fashion Week, where fans, including a number of celebrities like Popcaan, Beenie Man, and Lila Ike, were able to see pieces in the collection.

Raheem Sterling‘s company’s first drop for AW21 collection pays homage to his homeland Jamaica. It is named after one of the greatest events in modern Jamaican history, the infamous 1692 earthquake. This 1692 earthquake sunk two-third of the city of Port Royal, which was then a major pirate hub called “the wickedest city in the world” for being the haunt of the buccaneers.

For Sterling, 1692 has particular significance as it also made way for Kingston to become the modern Capital of Jamaica which is the footballer’s birthplace. The AW21 line was designed and co-founded by Sterling and British designer Samiyah Miah.

According to a statement from the label, 1692 “echoes the artful construction and endless resilience of the island, with perfectly tailored lines defining poise and presence for the twenty-first century gentleman.”

The line features unisex pieces in utilitarian-inspired silhouettes in neutral tones of navy blues, clean whites and ecrus, and darker shades of grey and black to represent the “industrious land of wood and water” – the Arawak description of Jamaica which surrounds Jamaica’s capital city.

At the launch of the clothing line were friends of Sterling, including Popcaan, Beenie Man, Lila Ike, Curtis Jones, and Amelia Dimoldenberg. There were also models who displayed the pieces in the collection, which were worn with footwear from Sterling’s two footwear partners, Clark’s and New Balance.

Sterling, who proudly displays his Jamaican heritage, previously spoke about having his own fashion line’s unique name.

“That’s the year Kingston [Jamaica] was founded. The brand is about earthy colours and laid-back designs that have a special meaning to me.”

The Manchester City winger was also seen in videos with Popcaan and other Man City players, which the superstar shared on his Instagram page.

Leon Bailey Dedicates First Aston Villa Goal To Late Friend Steffie Gregg

Leon Bailey netted his first goal for Aston Villa and dedicated the stunner to his late friend Steffie Gregg.

Since joining Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for roughly £30 million, all eyes have been on the Jamaican professional footballer. On Saturday, September 18, he netted his first goal for the English Premier League club and would’ve had a second if it wasn’t ruled an own goal against Everton.

While sharing an image on his IG page, Bailey wrote, “That One Was For You! Still Think About You Everyday. Love You Forever Sis.”

Like Raheem Sterling, Leon Bailey and late Jamaican socialite Steffie Gregg were close friends for years. After netted a stainer with his left foot in the 74th minute, Baily took off his jersey to reveal his undershirt with the words, “Forever Love Steffie Gregg.”

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling had a similar message on his undershirt during a game earlier this month when he too scored a stunner to help England win their World Cup qualifier match against Hungary 4-0.

Steffie Gregg passed away earlier this month following a battle with Covid. She reportedly had Lupus which caused complications with the deadly virus. Among the many celebrities who paid tribute to her includes her uncle Rvssian who shared his heartbreak on Instagram after her passing.

Not only was she well-known in the Jamaica entertainment scene, but Steffie was also an avid gamer who had a huge following on Twitch. Her father is a former race car driver and businessman Gary Gregg and her brother, Kyle “Speedy” Gregg, is a current race car driver.

Popcaan Wasn’t Feeling Kanye West’s Yeezy Kicks While Sneaker Shopping In The UK

Popcaan stays loyal to Drake and not even Kanye West famous Yeezy kicks he will not support.

Along with his numerous hit songs and charismatic personality, Popcaan is known for being brutally honest about his feelings. The Dancehall Deejay has been having a good time in London, giving fans a little more insight into his taste in sneakers.

Popcaan visited UK’s luxurious sneaker retailer, Kick Game, and was featured on the store’s YouTube page, capturing his private shopping spree without filtering the “Level Up” deejay’s likes and dislikes.

The YouTube page usually features other celebrities who give details on their preferences as they provide sneaker reviews. Popcaan was reportedly exclusively invited, and while there were no fans present (possibly due to the Covid-19 pandemic), Popcaan definitely uplifted the mood of staff members with his jokes and antics.

Of course, the deejay, who was accompanied by his older brother, would not hold back on what his preferences are and what he really is not fond of.

The “Firm and Strong” deejay praised England-based Jamaican footballer Raheem Sterling’s Clarks collection and demanded the brand.

“Show mi di Raheem Sterling shoes dem. Get mi di Raheem Sterling shoes in dis place. Get dem inside here. That’s my bro!” he exclaimed.

However, Kanye West’s Yeezy did not get such positive feedback. The Unruly Boss did not hide his contempt for the brand.

“What the f**k is a Yeezy’s bro? Mi nuh know bout dat! Mi nuh know dem shoes deh. Dem shoes deh look like some alien shoes. I don’t feel those bro,” he said.

However, the deejay did hail a pair of slides as something he could wear, but to the river, and emphasized that he is not too fond of the name.

“I don’t do slide, fam. Mi love go river and dem ting deh mi can use dem yah…choose one a dem yah as one river shows. We can easy wid some Yeezy’s still but we nuh deal wid sliding,” he explained.

He was contented with a pair of Travis Scott X Air Force One Low Cactus Jack sneakers, Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Shadow 2.0, Union LA X Air Jordan 4 Retros in Guava Ice, among other cool sneakers.

Popcaan also insisted on buying fits for his “family” back home, and he fetched a pair of shoes for Jorja Smith, a British singer he had collaborated with on the track “Come Over.”

The 33-year-old also honored Buju Banton by selecting a T-Shirt flaunting the “Untold Stories” deejay’s face, and declaring him a “legend.”

“Buju mean music, he’s a symbol of the Jamaican industry. He’s family bro,” he said.

Popcaan also selected a sweatsuit and a TrapStar jacket from Drake and Nike’s NOCTA Apparel Collection.

At the end of the shopping spree, Popcaan paid a bill of £9,154.85.

Raheem Sterling honors his late friend Steffie Gregg during England and Hungary World Cup qualifying match today.

Sterling, like so many other Jamaicans, is currently mourning the death of socialite Steffie Gregg, who is also the niece of record producer Rvssian. Her death sent shock waves through the local celebrity community on Tuesday when news broke that she passed away from complications of Covid-19. She reportedly had an underlying illness, Lupus.

Gregg and Raheem Sterling have been close friends for years, and naturally, he too, is deeply saddened by her sudden passing. The Manchester City forward wore an under jersey T-Shirt honoring her with the message, “Love You Forever Steffie Gregg.”

Sterling netted a goal in the 55 minutes to help England defeat Hungary 4-0. “This one was for you SVG,” the footballer wrote while sharing images from the game.

According to Rvssian, Steffie Gregg had a lot of love and respect for Raheem Sterling. In 2018, she shared a photo of herself wearing his number 7 Manchester City jersey at one of their games.
