Drake, The Weeknd & Pop Smoke Biggest Winners At 2021 Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Awards lived up to its hype and produced a magical show with some well-known artists walking away the big winners of the night. Even though the event featured some pre-recorded performances, the energy of the entertainment was not lost.

Drake took home the most coveted prize of them all when he was named Artist of the Decade. He and his 3-year-old son, Adonis, accepted the award together. He also became the most decorated Billboard Music Award winner ever as that trophy took him to 29 wins. Drake shared the moment with his family and friends at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with his son Adonis holding his hand.

“I wanna dedicate this award to my friends, to my longtime collaborators … to my beautiful family, and to you,” he said. It should come as little surprise that he claimed the title as the decade’s best considering his first song that made the Billboard Hot 100 chart came in 2009, and he’s largely dominated the charts since that time. He has the record for the most songs ever on the chart, with 232 entrees. Of those 232, 45 were Top 10 hits on the Hot 100 and 22 were No. 1s on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart. Drake was also named top streaming songs artist.

Fans knew they were in for a good show as DJ Khaled, H.E.R., and Migos came together to deliver an electrifying collaborative effort. Doja Cat and SZA also joined in on stage with their mega-hit “Kiss Me More,” even though it was to an empty hall. The biggest winner of the night was The Weeknd, who was present to accept his 10 awards. It must have been a great feeling for him, considering earlier this year, he was snubbed by the Grammys when he wasn’t nominated for any of the awards in his genre.

He also had the most nominations of the night with 16. He took home some big accolades like the top artist, top male artist, top Hot 100 song for “Blinding Lights” and the top R&B album for “After Hours” as well. He paid homage to his parents and fans for giving him the inspiration to carry on with his career.

“I wanna take this opportunity to thank you, my parents,” he said before adding, “I am the man I am today because of you. And thank you to my fans, of course. I do not take this for granted.”

Pop Smoke was also honored posthumously with five awards. The late rapper was recognized as the top new artist and top rap artist. His debut album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon” claimed the top rap album and top Billboard 200 album. His mother, Audrey Jackson, was on hand to accept the awards.

“Thank you to the fans for honouring the life and spirit of my son, so much that he continues to manifest as if he was still here in flesh,” Jackson said.

The award show also dedicated a moment to another fallen rapper, the ever impactful DMX. DaBaby and Swizz Beatz dedicated a moment to the rappers that died recently. Swizz Beatz was very close with DMX and has kept working with his estate to ensure that his last album, Exodus, will be released later this month, May 28. Another winner on the night was Houston rapper and activist Trae Tha Truth who copped the Change Maker Award. Throughout his speech, he called for racial equality and ended his speech by adding: “We still gon’ need justice for Breonna Taylor.”

The Award show was also the platform used by Alicia Keys to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her breakout debut album “songs in A minor.” She treated viewers to some tracks from the album, including her monster hit “Fallin’.” She was introduced by former first lady Michelle Obama.

Pink, who has now become known for her glorious stage show performance, had her 9-year-old daughter join her on stage as they performed a gravity-defying set. Pink walked away with the Icon award.

“Willow, you nailed it. I love what I do and I love the people that I get to do it with, and we’re pretty good at what we do, but it wouldn’t matter if no one came to see us and play with us. So all you guys out there … thank you for coming out!” she said at the end of her performance.

Other big winners at the show included Bad Bunny and BTS, with won four awards each. The former rapper now turned rock singer Machine Gun Kelly won top rock artist and top rock album.

“I released my first mixtape 15 years ago and this is the first big stage I’ve ever been invited to accept an award on. To the box that society keeps trying to put me, you need stronger material because you can’t keep me in it,” he said.

Other notable artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Kanye West won honors, but they did not attend.

Jay-Z – Things That U Do Lyrics

(feat. Mariah Carey)

[Jay-Z]
Uh-huh, uh
Jigga man, uh-huh MC
ThatÒs right
Swizz Beatz
Uh, uh, come on

[Mariah (Jay-Z)]
It’s the things that you do
That make me feel so…
(Come on, inhale, exhale, breathe on it for me)
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explain
(Uh)
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Bounce, bounce)
It’s the things that you do
That make me feel so..
(Exhale breathe on it for me)
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explain (Yeah)
I love you
(Uh come on)
You thug look at what you make the clubs do

[Jay-Z]
You know the flow sicka, know Jigga, mo’ sicka now right
You know what me and Swizz’s shit sound like
Crazed and demonic, uh without blazin chronic
Product of Reaganomics
You know that motherf*ckin stoop raised me
Ringin in da hoops but I was too lazy
School made me sick, teachers said I was too crazy
Low and behold, it’s the new and improved Jay-Z
Let me explain this to you baby
I spent nights out, days in
Niggaz was blazing, twelve noon where I was raised in
I felt caged in but kept roaming
Prayed for the Day of Atonement
Married to the streets no date of annulment
It seems every time it comes up
They postpone it
So I kept my chrome at the waist
Waiting for the omen
Savoring the moment and now you know
The reason that I flow the way I flow baby

[Mariah (Jay-Z)]
It’s the things that you do
(Uh, inhale, exhale, breathe on it)
That make me feel so..
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explains
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Bounce, shake, bounce, shake)
It’s the things that you do
That make me feel so..
(Uh, exhale, breathe on it for me)
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain (Uh)
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Drop, bounce, yo)

[Jay-Z]
You know I move like an ounce
Bottled up like crack
That’s how I make you bounce like that
Defy Webster’s words they can’t pronounce like that
That’s why no other rapper got a sound like that
Trap, trap of my life
Flashback, kill niggaz
Rap skills unmatched, Jigga man baby
I can’t entertain it sometimes I can’t explain it
God given, gifts of a soul for hard living
Far be it from me to question Allah’s wisdom
Could’ve been lost in the system
Instead I’m involved with the rhythm
I dodged prison, came out unscathed from car collisions
I know I must be part of some mission
Shit I used take it for granted
Why they placed me on this planet

I would ask myself while writin raps to myself
But right there under my nose
Was the flow of all flows
Not a demon but a rose in the cement, come on

[Mariah (Jay-Z)]
It’s the things that you do
That make me feel so..
(Inhale, exhale, breathe on it MC)
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explain
(Uh)
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Bounce, shake, shake it, uh)
It’s the things that you do
That make me feel so..
(Exhale, uh)
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Lights out nigga)

[Jay-Z]
You know I’ve traveled through zones
Homes spazzed like a bad back
I came into this game on Jaz’s back
I jumped off stood on my own two like boom, that’s that
Yeah I’m here to show and prove
Don’t matter to me the Garden or flowin on Clue
Whatever niggas wanna do – it’s alright with me
Whether you big or bossy, jig or flossy
Dusty or musty, sober or saucy
Broker than Todd Bridges, richer than Bill Cosby
Forgive me for my arrogance or you still salty?
Past on to the next life and you still haunt me
I’mma keep doing me unfortunately
I make the club rock, make thugs pop guns
Make old folks do the bus stop; can’t stop son
Shit I give you what’s hot and what’s not, I never knew
Y’all (niggas) know (niggas) how (niggas) do

[Mariah (Jay-Z)]
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
(Uh, exhale, inhale)
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Uh, bounce, shake, what? uh-huh)
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
(Uh-huh, inhale, exhale)
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Bounce, shake ladies)
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
(Uh-huh, breathe for me, uh, uh-huh)
And I don’t know the way I feel
I can explain
(Uh)
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
(Lights out niggas)
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do
It’s the things that you do that make me feel so..
And I don’t know the way I feel I can explain
I love you
You thug look at what you make the clubs do

Future’s Manager Addresses Travis Scott Verzuz Battle Reports

Future’s manager is responding to recent rumors of a potential Verzuz battle with Travis Scott.

Fans of Future shouldn’t hold their breath for a Verzuz battle. It has been almost a year since Timbaland and Swizz Beatz launched their brainchild to have artists go up against one another using their best tracks. The virtual showdowns came as a welcome alternative during a time when COVID-19 had canceled gigs and people were forced to isolate themselves in their homes. Numerous artists have taken part in the battles, but fans of Future are still waiting for the day that the “Life Is Good” rapper takes to the Verzuz stage.

Hope emerged this week when it seemed that Timbaland was in discussions with Future and Travis Scott to go head-to-head. “Timbaland’s manager says they’re working on a Travis Scott & Future Verzuz battle,” read a tweet from an account called @CmplxAmbition.

Fans naturally got excited — until it appeared to all be a rumor. Future’s manager, Anthony Saleh, set the record straight on his own Twitter account, saying, “I love verzuz but this isn’t true.” It seems that the match-up between Futch and the “Highest in the Room” artist was merely a part of the wishlist options that one of Timbaland’s managers, Gary Marella, put forth while on Clubhouse.

Gary Marella said it on Clubhouse today, also said Verzuz is working on doing another Sport collaboration and Comedy

DJ Akademiks is one who felt that Kylie Jenner’s baby daddy wouldn’t be able to compete against Future. “How bad y’all think King Future beats Travis Scott? 20-0 or 18-2?” he asked his followers on the ‘gram. Twitter was also filled with memes expressing how Travis Scott would be totally outshone. “Travis Scott will get f***ing annihilated in a Verzuz against Future. Please don’t,” tweeted one user who did not mince his words.

Travis Scott Clowned Over Potential Verzuz With Future

Travis Scott is getting clowned over a potential Verzuz with Future.

The Verzuz battle between R&B Queens Keyshia Cole and Ashanti is still patiently waiting in the wings after delays caused by Covid-19. Yet, if the rumors in circulation are actually true, hip hop fans could already be looking to save a date for yet another battle. The main question is, do Verzuz fans actually want to see Future and Travis Scott go head to head?

According to Timbaland’s manager, there are already talks about this Verzuz happening. Sadly, at this time, the general consensus surrounding that battle is pointing to a resounding ‘No.’ Both Future and Travis Scott have shown that they have the star quality one needs to attract millions of sales/streams and fans to their live events when that was actually a thing.

That is still not enough for some fans who believe that, for starters, there is too big of a cap between the start of their musical careers. 37-year-old Future started his career in the early 2000s, while 28-year-old Scott’s history began in 2012. In addition to the nearly decade long gap, fans fear that Future’s ability to deliver the goods on a mainstream level while keeping his ears to the streets will prove too much for the “Highest In The Room” rapper.

The Verzuz duo of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have been doing a great job so far with the battles they have brought to entertainment deprived fans. The initial Verzuz battles started as simple setups between artistes using their phones or other devices. This was until the Verzuz battle between Jamaican veterans Beenie Man and Bounty Killer ushered in a new form of battle, with both members being in the same room and, most importantly, stable audio and internet connection. So far, we have seen the likes of Rick Ross vs. 2 Chainz, Too Short vs. E40, Patti LaBelle vs. Gladys Knight, Brandy vs. Monica, Gucci Mane vs. Jeezy, Fab vs. Jadakiss, Snoop Dogg vs. DMX, and more battle in this format.

With their selection team being on fire for 2020, fans were hoping that they would have selected something to the tune of Future vs. Young Thug to kick start 2021. Since there has not been any formal confirmation of that battle, there could still be time to give the fans what they want.

Nicki Minaj and Nas Couple Up For His 44th Birthday Party

Nicki Minaj and Nas are officially a couple and her fans are reacting with dismay on social media.

The pair has been rumored to be dating for months now but manages to keep things under wraps for the most part at least until now. Seems Nicki Minaj couldn’t wait for Nas big 44th birthday party to rub it into Meek Mill and Safaree Samuels faces. While they didn’t explicitly confirm that they are dating, the videos below speak for themselves. The vast majority of her fans are here for her dating the rap legend, but there are some trolls who are stirring things up on Twitter.

On Wednesday night, video footage of Nicki Minaj and Nas parading like a couple in the company of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. The New York rap legend celebrated his 44th birthday today (September 14) and Swizz Beatz celebrated his birthday yesterday, so it was a double birthday bash and an all Virgo season. During the birthday party for the hip hop star and the power producer, Nicki Minaj went on Instagram Live to give her fans a glimpse of whats going on in her world. In one segment of the video feed, you could see Nas treating her like a glazed donut by planting his tongue all over her neck and face.

Swizz even posted a video of himself and Illmatic rapper dancing while funk happy birthday played in the background. As soon as all the liquor kicked in it was time for the birthday cake, and by then Nas had his hands wrapped around Nicki Minaj and the smile on her face was beaming. “Virgo Nation as I pass off this Bday love to my big brother @Nas Happy Born Day King,” Swizz wrote on IG. “We lit it’s blessing to celebrate each other ! Shout all the other Virgos also too many greats to mention Zone.”

Back in May, Nicki Minaj and Nas were spotted having dinner at the famous Sweet Chicks Life restaurant in Brooklyn and that was when the dating rumors started. Some sources said then that their relationship was fake and was one big publicity stunt to sell more records, but are they still faking it and where did they go last night after Nas birthday party.

DMX Cops Deal On House Arrest But Must Enter Drug Rehab

DMX desperately want to be able to travel and perform on gigs so he cop a deal to be free of house arrest but in exchange, he will have to enter a drug rehabilitation program.

The rap icon legal troubles are still far from over since he is facing multiple charges for tax evasion. He was placed under house arrest earlier this month after failing at least four drug tests, hence all the more reasons for drug rehab. TMZ reported that a judge has signed off on an inpatient treatment program for DMX’s substance abuse problems.

X will still need permission to travel outside of the state of New York, but if the treatment facility is outside of the state then he can travel there freely. The rapper’s lawyer, Murray Richman, agrees with the judge saying that DMX drug addiction has become impossible to manage and he needs help. This will not be the first time the former Ruff Ryder emcee is getting treatment for substance abuse, but we all sure it will be the last. In April of this year, the rapper checked himself into rehab following a mysterious medical problem. Sources say he had overdosed on drug and collapse. Seems that rehab didn’t help him back then because just this month he failed four drug test in one day where drugs such as marijuana and cocaine were found in his system.

DMX has pleaded not guilty to the tax charges and if convicted he could serve some time in prison. X is reportedly working on a new album but there is no word yet on the release date or the title. Earlier this year Swizz Beatz confirmed that he has been in the studio with the legendary rapper working on a new project. But it seems his drug addiction problems may have played a role in the delay of the project.
